Dear Jerry Moran, Thank you
Here in Kansas we don’t have a lot of opportunities to be proud of our elected officials in Washington, but when they do the right thing we should acknowledge it and thank them.
Recently, Trump and Musk illegally shut down USAID and it’s important to know what this program does if we’re going to defend it.
USAID (United States Agency for International Development) is the U.S. government’s primary agency responsible for providing foreign aid and development assistance. Established in 1961, its mission is to promote global stability, reduce poverty, and support the economic, social, and political development of countries around the world. USAID operates in over 100 countries, focusing on a range of sectors, including health, education, democracy and governance, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. Its work is vital because it helps strengthen global partnerships, responds to humanitarian crises, and advances U.S. foreign policy goals by fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in developing nations. Through its programs, USAID directly impacts millions of lives, improving health outcomes, creating job opportunities, and addressing pressing challenges like climate change and conflict.
American farmers sells roughly 2 billion dollars worth of produce to USAID and Kansas makes up $50M in wheat and sorghum.
Moran says the aggressive change at the USAID office shut down left $340 million in lifesaving food grown in the United States sitting at domestic ports, waiting to be delivered to various destinations where people are STARVING.
“Time is running out before this lifesaving aid perishes,” Moran said. “Food stability is essential to political stability, and our food aid programs help feed the hungry, bolster our national security and provide an important market for our farmers, especially when commodity prices are low.”
Call to Action
We can’t expect our representatives to listen when we’re upset and not tell them when we’re happy as well. It’s time to call Jerry Moran’s office and tell him to keep up the pressure to reinstate USAID and reject President Trump’s chaos.
Moran’s Washington Office Phone: (202) 224-6521
Not sure what to say? Try this script (and make it your own): “Senator Moran, I’m a voter in Kansas and I wanted to thank you for speaking up for Kansas farmers and USAID. This program should be restored immediately and the millions of pounds of food released to our partners. You’re right that this is a national security issue and Trump should know better. Tell your fellow Republicans to stop hurting farmers with this b.s. and restart the good work of USAID.”
Currently Moran’s voicemail is full so you can send a message via his website here: https://www.moran.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/e-mail-jerry
You could also call Roger Marshall’s office at (202) 224-4774 with a very different message:
“I’m a voter in Kansas and I want to know what is wrong with you? Supporting the illegal and unconstitutional shut down USAID so millions of dollars of food can rot while people starve is ghoulish. Do not support this stupidity – it will not only hurt American farmers over $2 billion a year, but our national security and reputation in the world. Don’t be a coward, Roger, stand up for the right thing, go ask Jerry Moran how it’s done.”
Marshall’s DC voicemail is also full BUT he has 6 Kansas offices. Let’s flood them with calls:
